役員会議室で録音装置を発見
米オープンAI（OpenAI）のオフィスに録音装置を隠して設置し、会話を不正に傍受した、または傍受しようとした疑いで、同社の従業員が逮捕・訴追された。米司法省が10月13日に発表した。
逮捕されたのは、サウジアラビア国籍のアブドゥルラフマン・アルフォザン（Abdulrahman Alfozan）容疑者（35）だ。司法省によると、同容疑者は2025年7月からオープンAIでエンジニアとして勤務していた。同容疑者は10月9日に逮捕され、13日に連邦裁判所へ初めて出廷した。
オープンAIは同日、オフィス内に隠されていた録音装置を発見したと公式Xで発表した。同社は、自社のAIモデルを使って装置とその出所を調べ、装置を設置した従業員を特定したと説明している。同社は、この件を米連邦捜査局（FBI）に通報したという。
司法省によると、オープンAIの職員は9月30日ごろ、サンフランシスコにある同社の役員会議室で録音装置を発見した。装置はトイレットペーパーで隠され、テレビ背面のUSBポートに接続されていた。同社は、装置が9月28日ごろに設置され、保存された内容が暗号化されていることを確認したという。
同会議室では、独自の研究や製品計画、事業開発の機会など、機密性の高い技術・商業・戦略上の情報が話し合われていたとされる。
また司法省は、同容疑者が10月5日に会議室へ入り、テレビの背面を確認するような姿を監視カメラが捉えたと説明している。同日ごろ、同社の警備担当者は、同容疑者が別の部屋に置いたバッグから、類似した別の録音装置も発見したという。
さらに司法省は、同容疑者の配偶者に関連付けられたチャットボットのアカウントから、録音装置の製作や隠蔽、遠隔アクセスなどについて質問が行われていたと説明した。同アカウントは、同容疑者のアカウントと複数の識別情報や属性を共有していたという。
オープンAIは、当該従業員を解雇したと説明している。同社は、発表時点ではAIモデルの重みやソースコード、顧客データへの不適切なアクセスや持ち出しを示す兆候はないとしている。FBIの捜査は継続中で、同社は引き続き捜査に協力すると述べた。
